Year 2

In year 2 we step back in time... to the time when kings and queens ruled over us in their magnificent castles; to times when man was just setting out to explore the World and discover what was beyond our shorelines; to the times of great inventors who strived to make our lives easier with amazing inventions.

Year 2 Expectations

Reading

In Year 2, children are now expected to change their own reading books. This now gives them the opportunity to choose books they think they'll enjoy. For children on pink, red, yellow, blue, orange or green book bands, children are expected to read their book three times: one for decoding, one for comprehension, and one for prosody (expression and intonation). Children can change their books when they are ready and these books can be found in the Year 2 cloakroom.

Homework

Each week children will be given homework. This will consist of a set of spellings linked to the focus sound or spelling pattern of the week, and a piece of work based on current learning. This could be anything from Maths or English to art or Music. Homework will be handed out on a Friday and will be due back in on the following Thursday.
