Term 3 and 4
In the Spring term we began our topic on Castles. We were so lucky to be able to start our learning by visiting an actual medieval castle.
We now know what a spiral staircase is because we walked up and down one to the very top of a tower.
We explored rooms to look for clues of how people lived in castles long ago.
We discovered the oldest building most us have ever seen. Did you know that this building within Chepstow castle is almost ONE THOUSAND years old?
We even thought like engineers. We know why castle walls don’t fall down!
Finally we used our observation skills to sketch the castle. As you can see we had to look very carefully so we could draw what we could see.
Our topic inspired lots of artwork. This year we worked with the painting The Castle and the Sun by Paul Clee.
Our reading area was full of castle information books. We used them to research more information and then wrote our own castle books using all the features of non-fiction writing we had learnt.
Lots of other exciting things happened in the Spring term too. We had World Book Day, Arts week and even a Maths problem solving morning!
Terms 5 and 6What sort of a dragon would you like? This was the question we started our new term with! Our first book was Tell me a Dragon by Jackie Morris. We used her book to inspire our own artwork and poetry
Our new topic is called Under the ground! So far we have been doing lots of science to find out what plants need to grow.
We are looking forward to learning about lots of things especially fossils and animals that live underground too!
