Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Backwell Federation is a welcoming, inclusive family which is committed to all children reaching their full potential. Our nurturing environment enables our children to feel secure, safe and develop confidence and enthusiasm for their learning.

Our learning environment is exciting and encourages ALL to participate. Our curriculum is broad, stimulating and creative and it focuses on the whole child to prepare them for the future. Our Universal provision menu can be found below. This details provision available consistently for all pupils across the Federation.

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) works with all school staff to make sure that appropriate access to the curriculum is available for all children. The kind of support your child may receive whilst with us might include:

  • Small group interventions
  • A personalised plan to meet a child's individual needs.
  • Access to outside agencies e.g. speech and language therapy, educational psychologist etc.

As well as supporting children we also want to support parents. As a result, this page is designed to give parents/carers access to any of the information you may require regarding special educational needs provision at West Leigh Infants and Backwell Junior school.

The SENDCo at West Leigh Infant School and Backwell Church of England Junior School is Ellie Jenkins.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding Special Educational Needs or additional support in class, please see your child's class teacher in the first instance and then the SENDCo via the relevant school office.

The North Somerset Local Offer

North Somerset Local Offer

The Local Offer provides information for children and young people in North Somerset with special educational needs or a disability.

Navigating through the range of services and support can be confusing and time-consuming, so the Local Offer aims to bring all of these resources together in a single place. Knowing what support is available and how to find it helps parents and carers to plan ahead.

To find out more about the local offer, please use the link above.
