Welcome to 5PB!
In our class we have two teachers...
Monday - Wednesday : Mrs Pearson
Wednesday afternoon- Friday: Mrs Barnard
Mrs Hughes is Year 5's LSA and works
with both classes in the mornings, Monday- Thursday.
5PB have had a fantastic start to the year and have dived straight into our first topic- 'Ancient Greeks- thinkers or fighters?'
To fully immerse ourselves in what life would have been like for the Ancient Greeks, we had a WOW day at the start of term.
The day started with us designing Greek tunics and making laurel wreath crowns- this helped us to get into our roles as Ancient Greek citizens.
Life in the classroom
We learnt about the Greek alphabet and practised writing our names and messages for our partners to decipher in playdough.
The Ancient Greeks were famous for their astrology and so we made models of some of the different star constellations with beads and pipe cleaners.
We also worked with Greek numbers and solved calculations using our new found knowledge of the Ancient Greek number system.
Tasting traditional Greek food
The afternoon saw us designing Greek plates and then actually tasting some traditional Greek food and drink.
All washed down with some grape juice!
Some members of the class were a little reluctant at first, but we were very pleased to see all of 5PB at least trying some of the different foods on offer.
What else have we been up to?
We have been looking at the different functions of the human body and in one of our most recent lessons, we created a working pump to demonstrate the action of the heart!
This was followed by playing the 'Circulation game' where a giant body was set up in the classroom. 2 of members of 5PB were the heart, some were organs in the body and the rest of the class were blood cells carried to and from the heart.
English- 'Perseus and Medusa' drama
We have been reading a selection of Ancient Greek myths in English and one of our tasks was to write the myth of 'Perseus and Medusa' as a playscript.
Great fun was had acting out the playscripts in our drama lesson!
Science - investigating pulse rates
We started to find out about how our pulse rate is effected by exercise and how quickly our heart rates recover. To do this we had to get our hearts racing!
