Welcome back to 3AJ
We are coming to the end of our Ancient Egyptian topic in year three but we aren’t slowing down yet! We have been designing, making and evaluating canopic jars! Canopic jars were used by the ancient Egyptians during the mummification process to store and preserve the organs of their owner for the afterlife. We had great fun making our jars out of plastic bottles, paper and masking tape (real jars were made out of limestone or pottery)!
At the start of term 2, year three took part in ‘Raise the Roof’ along with 2 other local schools. For one afternoon, children dressed up and sang their hearts out to songs we had been practising throughout term 1. We had a brilliant afternoon and everyone looked great in their ‘countries of the world’ outfits.
In the middle of term 2, 3AJ launched a week long investigation comparing the temperature in Backwell to the temperature in Cairo. They practised their data handling and interpretation skills, made tables and ultimately created bar charts to compare the different temperatures over one week.
During the final lesson, children were put into 5 groups and given the opportunity to collect and present their own data. We had 5 class votes where children gathered data about anything they liked - from favourite ice-cream flavours to favourite sports! Children tallied the data and then as a group presented it as a bar graph!
