Welcome back to 3AJ's Class Page!
What an exciting term we have had! We have packed so much in to five short weeks!
Stone Age Class Assembly
3AJ wowed the school and parents during term five with their amazing Stone Age class assembly. 3AJ demonstrated all the things they have learnt about the Stone Age through their amazing re-enactment of the book ‘Stone Age Boy’.
All the children performed brilliantly, everyone was so confident and everyone spoke so clearly!
Another fantastic job well done 3AJ!
3AJ have had the chance to take part in lots of exciting science activities this term!
In class, 3AJ have been learning all about different types of rock and how they are formed.
3AJ also had the opportunity to visit West Leigh during term five. The year three children helped the children in reception to complete three different science experiments about their teeth, hands and their skin’s sensitivity.
Finally, 3AJ were visited by a group of medical students from the University of Bristol. 3AJ found out more about their bones and joins during this exciting morning workshop!
Stone Age Class Trip
At the end of Term five, 3AJ had the opportunity to go on a class trip to Badger’s Wood.
During their trip, they got to see a real Stone Age cave! Nobody really knew Backwell Cave existed until 1936, when a quarry owner asked two men to clear out the red clay inside it. When pieces of bone appeared in the soil, digging was stopped. Further excavation revealed the remains of 20-30 individuals!
Unfortunately many of the finds, including the human bones were lost when Bristol Museum was bombed in World War Two!! Thankfully, two bones survived and were dated back to the New Stone Age -5000 years ago!
3AJ also took part in a shelter building activity. The children had to build a miniature shelter for a Stone Age family. The children were told they needed to keep a paper towel (representing the family and their possessions) dry - so their structures needed to be waterproof! Some had more success than others but everyone had good fun building!
In the afternoon, the fun continued in the year three classrooms!
During the first activity, 3AJ learnt all about Stonehenge with Miss Jenkins and then built their very own out of clay!
During the second activity with Mrs Jarivs, the class made their own Stone Age cave painting book marks!
The whole class thoroughly enjoyed their end of topic WOW day and can’t wait to start learning about the rainforests of the world next term!
