We have lots of exciting lessons planned for out first topic of Year Two! Click on the link to find out what we will be learning in the first two terms.
Over the last few weeks we have been very busy in Fox Class. We are working hard and have already produced some fantastic work which is on display around school and in the classroom!
In English, we have been writing our own books all about West Leigh Infant School. We wrote an introduction paragraph, went on a tour to label a map of the school and we have written information pages about each year group. We have now moved on to looking at our book for this term, 'Journey' by Aaron Becker. Firstly, we looked at the first page and identified with the characters, thinking about how they feel. We then created tableaus in small groups (see the photos below).
In Maths we have been learning all about place value. We have been writing numbers in numerals and word, identifying tens and ones, comparing and ordering numbers and solving lots of problems!
We have also been doing some exciting work in Science, learning about living things, which the children have particularly enjoyed.
Due to their brilliant work and good attitude, the children also had their first class treat. We had a pajama party, watching Frozen 2 and snuggling with our teddies.
Here are a few pictures of some work and of our time so far in Fox Class.
Update 23rd October 2020
We have had a brilliant end to Term 1. The children have worked incredibly hard and deserve a rest over half-term.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been busy learning about:
- poetry in English, using onomatopoeia, similes and rhyming,
- addition and subtraction in Maths, looking at the relationship between numbers and working on number bonds to 100,
- living things and their habitats in Science, learning about what living things need and going on a minibeast hunt.
During the final week of term, we have been doing some great work in art. We have been learning about Roy Lichtenstein and pop art. We have even created some pop art of our own, using year 2 common exception words, which you can see from the pictures below.
Update 24th November
We have had an excellent start to Term 2 in Fox Class. The term started with our Explorers WOW Day. It was a brilliant day, with lots of learning and activities. We learnt about Christopher Columbus, The Wright Brothers and Neil Armstrong. We made boats that had to float, made helicopters and made a picture of ourselves on the moon. Here are some pictures of the fantastic day!
Christmas Performance- Away in a Manger
Our Christmas performance of Away in a Manger was fantastic this week. The children should be incredibly proud of themselves. We only had just over two weeks to rehearse and learn all the actions for the songs. The children were disappointed to not have a live audience but they are very excited for you to see it on DVD. Here is a class photo of us all in our costumes.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
