Our 'Explorers' topic makes sure we have an exciting start to Year 2.
This year, along with all year groups, we will be using the book Here We Are: Notes for living on planet earth by Oliver Jeffers to inspire our writing. We will be exploring using a range of word types and looking at sentence structure before writing our own guide inspired by this Oliver Jeffers’ book.
An explorers WOW day at the beginning of Term 2 helps us to get excited about our history part of this unit. In our WOW day, in addition to dressing up, we also learn about some famous explorers of the past, become an engineer and even take our first steps on the moon. We will then continue to learn about famous explorers in history.
As part of the topic we will find out about the life of Captain Scott. We use this as a stimulus for writing and will be writing a report all about Captain Scott's life.
Our science for this term is Living Things and their Habitats. We will be using a range of enquiry style questions to help us think like a scientist and discover more about our natural world.
