Maths – Week beginning 30th March
1. Times Tables Games
LI: Revise multiplication facts
Please choose 2 different games from the ones played last week. Ask an adult or older sibling to play with you to check how accurate you are!
Remember, by the end of Year 3, you should be confident at counting up in multiples of 3, 4 and 8 and you should know these times tables facts fluently.
Extension Challenge: Complete the Counting in Multiples Challenge sheet.
2. Addition and Subtraction
L.I: Use the column method to add and subtract
Explain to an adult how you can use the column method to add and subtract numbers.
C1: Pages 10 and 12 of the Year 3 Addition and Subtraction Workbook
C2: Pages 11 and 13 of the Year 3 Addition and Subtraction Workbook
C3: Pages 15 and 17 of the Year 3 Addition and Subtraction Workbook
All challenges to work in your book please not on the sheet.
Use a calculator to mark your work
In all challenges, some of the calculations require children to regroup.
By the end of year three, all children should be able to do this using the column method.
If your child cannot solve these problems using the column method even with help, children could draw pictorial representations of dienes on a place value chart to help them (we have done a lot of this in class - see example below) or use a number line.
However, the vast majority of the class should be using the column method (also see below).
3. Telling the Time
LI: tell time to the nearest minute
Over the coming weeks, keep asking someone at home to help you to practise telling the time. Once you’ve had enough practice, you should be able to confidently complete all the tasks in these packs.
Practise as much as you can this week and then please complete the first 1 or 2 pages.
We will ask you to work through the rest of the pack over the next few weeks.
C1 Time Pack
C2 Time Pack
C3 Time Pack
Work on the sheet if you can.
If you cannot print the sheet, please just write the answers.
If a question asks you to draw the hands on, please carefully draw your own basic clock.
Drawing around something like a cup or a roll of tape will help!
Answers at the end. Mark and correct the questions you have completed.
4. Fractions revision
LI: find fractions of amounts
Over the past few weeks, year three have been learning about fractions. Choose one of the challenges below and find fractions of the amounts given.
Remember – the denominator shows you how many parts you are splitting the amount into and the numerator shows you how many parts you are counting.
C1: Use the C1 sheet below
Either print the sheet and work on that or write number sentences into your book. E.g. 1/2 of 6 = 3
C2: Answer C2 questions into your book
Either draw the representation as a bar model OR use your times table knowledge and write the question out as a number sentence.
E.g. 2/3 of 15
Bar model: 2/3 of 15 = 10
15 |

OR
Pictorial bar model: 2/3 of 15 = 10
15 |

OR
2/3 of 15 = 10
15 ÷ 3 = 5
5 x 2 = 10
C3: Answer C3 questions into your book. Using times table knowledge to help you, write the question, the steps you've taken (working out) and the answer
E.g.: or
2/3 of 15 = 10
15 ÷ 3 = 5 15 ÷ 3 = 5 = 1/3
5 x 2 = 10 5 x 2 = 10 = 2/3
2/3 of 15 = 10
For all challenges, the answers are on the second sheet. Please mark and correct your work.
5. Place value revision
C1:
LI:Compare numbers under 100
Either print page 1 and glue it into your book OR copy out the question putting the correct symbol in the right place
Answers on page 2. Please mark and correct your work.
C2:
LI: Comparing numbers with up to 4 digits
Place value challenge - complete page 1 and 2
Either print page 1 and 2 and glue it into your book OR write the question and answer straight into your book
E.g.
1. Between 161 and 169
167
Answers at the end. Please mark and correct your work.
C3:
LI: Comparing numbers with up to 4 digits
Complete the 'Mystery of the missing glue sticks!' pack
Print pages 3, 4 and 5 OR record the answers/working out straight into your book
Answers at the end. Did you crack the case!?
