Year 5 Anti-bullying Workshop
On Wednesday 26th June, half of the year group took part in a workshop focusing on the issue of bullying.
The workshop was led by storyteller Michael Loader. In the morning, the children took part in drama activities and then there was a talk, story task plus Q&A with author Tony Roberts.
One of the most poignant parts of the day took place after break where the pupils watched a recorded talk by Nik Nikiforou. Nik is 12 and has suffered bullying during his life because of a ‘facial difference’. Nik revealed his life story and how he has coped with bullying and as a result now thriving with a new found confidence.
The afternoon consisted of song writing and a performance. The year 5s took inspiration from the morning activities and wrote a song with a clear anti-bullying message.
Year 5 DT Day- Viking Longships
On Tuesday 25th June, Year 5 had a fantastically creative day making Viking longships!
As part of our topic, we have been finding out about how the Vikings attacked their enemies. One piece of transport which was an essential part of the attack was the Viking longship.
In small groups, we used newspaper to carefully construct the shape of the ship and then brown tissue paper to add an authentic wood colour. Dowel was used as a mast and then we painted squares of material with striking patterns to fashion the unmistakable Viking look.
We are really pleased with the final outcomes! Here they are for you to enjoy too!
