Space Learning Logs5T clearly enjoyed their recently learning logs and there was some very creative and interesting work produced. Here are just a few of them.
Trip to We The Curious 03.02.20
We had a fantastic day at We The Curious, where we took part in a workshop, enjoyed a planetarium show and roamed the exhibitions.
In the workshop, we used robotic arms, learnt about air pressure in space (using marshmallows and syringes), decided what sports equipment could be used in a space gym, designed rockets (which were launched at the end – see videos below) and compared the absorbency of different materials to decide which would make the best filling for a space nappy.
Take a look at the pictures and videos below.
Space Artwork Inspired By Peter Thorpe
We have been learning about Peter Thorpe in our art lessons this term and we’ve spent a lot of time analysing his artwork. Each child in 5T has created their own space-themed artwork, in the style of Thorpe (check out the pictures below!).
The class spent lots of time experimenting with oil pastels before they carefully designed their own rockets and used oil pastels to colour them, attempting to apply the skills they had learnt. Then, they painted their background, considering how it would complement or contrast their rocket.
In lessons, and indeed in their outcomes, they have been really focusing on use of colour and exploring what happens when commentary colours are placed next to one another. Additionally, they have been exploring with different ways to depict the light source in artwork and thought carefully about this in their outcomes.
Their finished pieces look absolutely fantastic on display in the classroom – do pop in to have a look!
PET service 22.01.20
Today, the whole school went to St. Andrew’s Church to attend a PET service…that’s right, we brought our beloved pets along! They were all so well behaved and it was great to see so many family members joining us, with their animals! Take a look at the pictures and video below.
Inspirational Maths Days
We started Term 3 off with a bang, with two Inspirational Maths Days! We carried out the many investigations and challenges and had a lot of fun! Check out the pictures below which show our finished posters and us trying out different combinations for the ‘Four Fours’ investigation. The task was to make the totals of 1-20 using four fours and any operation. We used BODMAS to ensure our calculations were carried out in the correct order.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
