To navigate your way through the Oak academy lessons, click on the Next Activity button at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Often this will lead to an introductory quiz which is just a starting off point to see how much you already know and to give you a clue to what you will learn about in the lesson. You will need to close the quiz before you can move on. Click Next Activity to start the lesson video. You can pause the video when directed and return to this video at any point if you need to refresh what you learnt. Sometimes, additional worksheets or knowledge organisers are also available so click through to Next Activity to see if any are available for your task.
Each week please try to complete the English and maths tasks, including activities set for reading and times tables. The other activities are optional but we would hope that you would like to give them a try too! We appreciate working from home is tricky so just do your best.

Lesson 1: Character Description: Reading Comprehension- Fact Retrieval Watch the video and use the buttons on the bottom of the screen to navigate between activities. When you have listened to the input, answer the questions in your exercise books. Then, play the video again to check your answers. At the end of the lesson, complete the quiz to see how well you have done! Optional additional task: write a short description of yourself as a super hero, listing what special skills you would have and how you will use them to help others. Draw a cartoon picture of your hero or just your log/emblem.
Lesson 2: Character Description: Reading Comprehension - Word Meaning Complete the introductory quiz and then watch the video. Use the buttons on the bottom of the screen to navigate between activities. When you have listened to the input, answer the questions in your exercise books. Then, play the video again to check your answers. At the end of the lesson, complete the quiz to see how well you have done! Optional additional task: test your word deciphering skills by completing the 'Word Meaning worksheet' listed in the resources below.
Lesson 3: Character Description: Identifying features of a text Complete the introductory quiz and then listen carefully to the input in the video. During the independent task, write your answers in your exercise book (don’t worry about the worksheet). It may help you to number your answers for the structural or grammatical features. When you have finished, go back to the video to check your answers and then have a go at the exit quiz. Optional additional task: Have fun building some crazy expanded noun phrases to describe the aliens on the 'Building Noun Phrases' worksheet listed below.
Lesson 4: Character Description: SPAG Focus - Relative Clauses Complete the introductory quiz and then listen carefully to the input in the video. Carefully review how to punctuate relative clauses correctly. Complete the task in your exercise books, check the video for answers and then complete the exit quiz. Optional additional task: Create some silly sentences using the relative clause game (see resources sheet listed below). Then have a go at writing silly sentences about friends or family – but remember to be kind! E.g. Mrs Pearson, who is the world’s most diminutive teacher, loves teaching science.
Lesson 5: Character Description: Writing a character description Complete the introductory quiz and then listen carefully to the input in the video. Today, you will be writing your own character description. Use the WAGOLL, the sentences you drafted in lesson 4 and the sentence starters to help you with your structure. When you close the video, there are slides with extra scaffolds on to help you. When you have finished, edit your writing carefully. Teachers would love you to ask your adult to send these to year group emails. Please do not upload any of your work online to any social media sites. Optional additional task: Draw a picture of the character you have described in an action scene. Where would they be? Who are they likely to be with? What are they most likely to be doing?

Lesson 1 – decimals as fractions Watch the video and then have a go at the worksheet. Check your answers. Optional additional task: complete the Ultimate fractions, decimals and percentages challenge ( worksheet listed below).
Lesson 2 – understanding thousandths You may want to print and use the place value counters (tens, ones and tenths) or make your own. For question 2a on the worksheet, draw images of the base 10 for your representations. Optional additional task: complete the Understanding Thousandths work sheet listed below. With a partner, take it in turn to put a 3 digit number into to a calculator. See if you can change this to a number containing thousandths by diving by powers of ten.
Lesson 3 – rounding decimals You can print the blank number line sheet to work on during the lesson and to help you on the second page of the worksheet. For the final part of questions 1 and 2 on the worksheet, write your explanation down instead. Optional additional task: Play the Rounding Decimals game set out on the worksheet below. Fancy more of a challenge? Create your own decimals board to play with decimals up to thousandths - think about how you would need to adapt the rules.
Lesson 4 – order and compare decimals The place value counters will help today. For question 6b on the worksheet, it means the total distance she could jump to the nearest hundredth of a metre. Optional additional task: Play a 'snap' game using the decimal cards; the largest value wins. Or you could even have a family game of 'Play your cards right' but who will be Brucie? (not sure who Bruice is? Check with mums and dads!)
Lesson 5 is the Family Challenge. The activity is on the same page as the learning videos, or you can find it on the BBC Bitesize Year 5 page. The most suitable questions for Year 5 are 1 to 5 but why not try the others with someone at home!

PE |
|
There are a lot of PE activities available that you can do depending on the space or resources available. Here are some suggestions.
|
Art |
|
Make a funky fish to put in your window. Draw the outline of a fish. Collect lots of brightly coloured paper from magazines, junk mail, newspaper and packaging. Cut into different shapes to decorate your fish. Glue them in place like scales and draw or stick on an eye. Try not to leave any gaps in your design. (If you don’t have glue, make a mixture ½ cup of flour and ½ cup water and mix together. Add more water if it is too thick). Can you also decorate the background? What words can you find to add to your design? |
Topic |
Who were the Vikings? Open the PowerPoint and print the worksheet in the resources below (or you can write it out in your books). In this lesson, you will find out about where the Vikings came from and why they wanted to come to Britain. You will also consider what it must have felt like to be invaded. Stop when directed on the PowerPoint to complete each part of the worksheet. |
|
Optional additional task: Write a short diary extract imagining you are an Anglo-Saxon. Perhaps you are a monk trying to protect the monasteries or a farmer trying to save his land. Remember, a diary focuses on not only the sequence of events but also the writer’s feelings and viewpoint about what has happened.
