Oak Academy Guidance:

To navigate your way through the Oak academy lessons, click on the Next Activity button at the bottom right hand side of the screen.  Often this will lead to an introductory quiz which is just a starting off point to see how much you already know and to give you a clue to what you will learn about in the lesson.  You will need to close the quiz before you can move on.  Click Next Activity to start the lesson video.  You can pause the video when directed and return to this video at any point if you need to refresh what you learnt.  Sometimes, additional worksheets or knowledge organisers are also available so click through to Next Activity to see if any are available for your task.

Each week please try to complete the English and maths tasks, including activities set for reading and times tables.  The other activities are optional but we would hope that you would like to give them a try too!  We appreciate working from home is tricky so just do your best.

There are a lot of PE activities available that you can do depending on the space or resources available. Here are some suggestions.

Look at https://kimart.com/works/faces/ for lots of colourful examples of Kimmy’s amazing ceramic faces.

Also, watch this clip of Kimmy talking about what inspires him, the processes he uses to make a finished piece and how he became a ceramic artist:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=148&v=IXsolKLnfeY&feature=emb_logo

There has been a lot in the news recently concerning the Black Lives Matter movement.  Therefore, we thought that our schools could help to celebrate cultural diversity by looking at the works of three different black artists over the next three weeks. The first of these is KIMMY CANTRELL.

Can you use recycled materials to make a mixed-media sculpture in the style of one of Kimmy Cantrell’s masks?

Topic

Learn a Viking Saga song!
Viking sagas were stories from Norse mythology about Viking Gods and Goddesses.

Click here to discover more about the realms of the Viking world. Scroll down the page to read the next part of the saga ‘Odin creates the world’ and then scroll down again to learn the song ‘Odin, mighty world-creator'.

Viking longships

The Viking raids were aided by their swift, sleek mode of transport- the longship.

Watch this clip to find out more about how the longships were built.

Then, watch this clip to find out how Vikings’ skills as shipbuilders and sailors enabled them to travel so far from their homeland.

Activity 1

Now have a go at drawing your own Viking longship. Use the step-by-step guide for how to draw the ship. Begin by sketching in pencil (as lightly as possible as this will be rubbed out at the end) and then use a black pen to go over your initial pencil drawing.

Alternatively, play this video and pause at each step. Looking for inspiration?

Have a look at these WAGOLLs from last year (in resources below).

Activity 2

Write a paragraph (or two) to explain why Viking longships were built the way they were and why this made them so effective. You might want to re-watch the videos for this.

Optional additional task: Write an advert for a Viking longship – list all of its features (go back to the videos if you need a recap) and make it sound as appealing as possible!
