Health and Fitness Week 2020!

Because this week would have been Health and Fitness Week at BJS, we have planned a selection of activities around sports, keeping fit and being healthy. The teachers at BJS have worked together to come up with a range of things to keep you busy and active! Hopefully, you will be able to do lots of these activities with siblings if you have them.

Please choose from the activities below (you don't have to complete all of them). We hope you enjoy them and remember to take lots of photos!

  • Health and fitness week 2020 (printable version)

My Exercise Log

Keep track of how you keep active each day in your Exercise Log! Remember to add to it each day. You can make your own version if you can’t print it.

Design your own Olympic park

The Olympic games have sadly been postponed until next summer.

  • What sports will athletes be competing in?
  • What different venues do you think they will have built in Japan?

Have a look on the Olympic games website to find out more:

https://www.olympic.org/olympic-games

Have a go at designing your own Olympic park. What venues and buildings would you need to include? Draw and label a bird’s eye view map of your park

  • You could have buildings for ‘Olympic sports’ such as athletics and a velodrome for cycling.
  • Or how about your ideal Olympics with all of your favourite sports!
  • Make sure you label the different venues and colour it in carefully.

Run your own sports day 2020!

  • Open Run Your Own Sports Day 2020 and follow the instructions.
  • Run Your Own Sports Day 2020

Create your own sport game

  • Use Create Your Own Sport Game to you help you – look at the second page which has one started to give you an idea how to fill it out. Once you’ve created the game, see if you are able to play it with your family – if possible!
  • Create Your Own Sport Game

Hula Hoop Challenges

If you have a hula hoop at home, have a go at Hula Hoop Challenges.

  • Hula Hoop Challenges

Explore the outdoors

If the weather allows, and you are able to do so safely, spend some time outdoors!

You could try the following things:

  • Do a scavenger hunt in your garden - draw and label the things you find!
  • Build a mini-den. Try and build a little den or bug house. Challenge yourself to make it waterproof (you could even test it at the end!)
  • Identify wildlife. Use these great identification cards from the Woodland trust to see what is growing in your garden or local surroundings:

               - Nature Detectives - Beautiful Blossom

               - Nature Detectives - Leaf ID

               - Nature Detectives - Twig ID

  • Make a nature picture. Using natural things from the garden (always ask before you pick anything) create a picture or pattern and take a photo!
  • Open Observation Alphabet (outdoor learning activity booklet)

               - Use your senses to find something from your environment for each letter of the .....................alphabet

               - Sketch the environment (using as many of the features in your list)

               - Add further descriptions to help create stronger imagery

               - Create a shape poem

French:

Open Les Sports PowerPoint (don’t feel you have to do all of the French activites…unless you want to!):

  • Make a list of any sports words you know in French
  • Take a look at the French Sports Word Mats – add any on to your list that you didn’t put down.
  • Click the play buttons to hear how to pronounce some of the sports in French.
  • Play Sport Snap (French)!
  • Play Splat (French)!
  • Play Sport Connect Four (French)!
  • Play Sports Board Game (French)!
  • Quel est ton sport préféré? (What’s Your Favourite Sport?)
  • Ask each person your family to say a sentence expressing their favourite sport. Then, then add it to the Favourite Sport Tally Chart. Could you ask any friends or other relatives and add them to your tally too?
  • Use the Favourite Sport Tally Chart to compose a block graph of your class’s favourite sports, using Sport Graph sheet.
  • Answer Sports Graph Questions.
  • Make an information sheet about your favourite sport – Mon Sport Préféré Est… . You can make this as easy or difficult as you wish! You could draw some equipment for your sport and label it in French. You could draw or stick in some of your favourite sports stars doing the sport and give some information about them – ‘Voici Andy Murray.  Il a trente-deux ans…’. You could draw an outfit or court/stadium for your sport and label it in French.

Sports Quiz

  • Have a go at the Sports Quiz (make sure you view in Slide Show mode and click on what you think is the correct answer!).
  • Once you’ve done that, come up with your own sports quiz – you could make a PowerPoint like this one or display it in a different way. Try to ask questions about lots of different sports – you’ll have to do some research!
  • Sports Quiz

Sport Challenge Cards

Print out Sport Challenge Cards – cut them out and shuffle them. Place the pile upside down and turn over the first card – complete the activity. Once finished, turn over the next card and do that activity. Keep doing this until all the cards have been turned over.

You could create some of your own cards too!

  • Sport Challenge Cards

Fitness Circuits Activity Cards

Set up your own circuit stations, using Fitness Circuits Activity Cards – spend 30 seconds at every station and have a quick break between each one. If you are feeling really fit, try doing the circuit more than once!

Sports day word search

Try making your own sports-themed word search for someone in your family, using the Blank Word Search Template.

Design your own sports kit

You could use Design a Football Kit if you want a template or you could design your own sports kit for any sport.
