As we are sure you are aware the Year 1 children may be returning to school from June 2nd. From that point onwards we will be following plans developed by the LSP. These plans will be the same as those being delivered to the children in school. There will be no home learning for the coming half term week and then future plans will be made available on the school website.
As before, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or queries related to the planning.
Please continue to share with us any examples of work, videos and photos. They have kept us all smiling!
We would especially like to welcome the new members of the Year 1 team. Mrs Bowden Green and Mrs Jarvis will be teaching Owl Class alongside Mrs Atherton and Miss Jenkins will be joining Mrs Chaffe and Mrs Wilson. We are really looking forward to working alongside each other and know they will support and encourage your children in every way
We are very grateful that Mrs Fox and Mrs Tapping will also be supporting the Year 1 children in school.
We hope that you all have a great half term week; hopefully the weather will continue to be kind to us and for those of you who are returning in June we look forward to welcoming you back. Thanks again for your continued encouragement and support.
Welcome to Year 1 Home Learning!
We will be sending home a learning pack with a home learning book and, to begin with, some additional resources. Each week we will post a selection of activities to mirror what the children would have been covering in the classroom. All activities are in line with the Year 1 curriculum and are working towards the end of year expectations. Each day will have an English and Maths activity and the afternoons will be focused on our class topic.
We set high expectations in Year 1 and would hope that you are able to continue supporting their learning as far as is possible. We would like you to record their work in their workbooks and shall look forward to reading them on their return. For every piece of work we would expect:
A margin on the page.
Date and title. Long date for English and short date for Maths.
Letters formed correctly (please see the attached sheet and feel free to use it should your child require it)
Mistakes crossed out with one line.
Information about Writing
The expectation at the end of Year 1 is that children can compose and write full sentences using a capital letter and full stop. In addition to this your child may include some additional punctuation such as question marks and exclamation marks. Please could you check that they have punctuated their written activities correctly and included a space between each word. Encourage your child to always read their work back so they can hear where they would insert a full stop.
Alongside this you will have a copy of the spelling banks that we use in class. Please get your child to use this independently to access words for spelling and to check their work at the end. These are the words that your child is expected to be able to read and spell by the end of the year. It would help your child if they could practice a few of these spellings each week. With other words encourage your child to use their sounds.
Information about Reading
You will already have found a sticker in your child's reading record directing you towards some online reading materials. Please take time to read these books carefully and to question your child's understanding. Encourage your child to also read other books that they may have at home. Please record whatever your child reads in their reading record. Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week.
Information about Maths
5 Maths activities will be available each week. These will cover a range of mathematical topics and if necessary additional teaching notes. Please ensure that your child checks the formation of their numbers and the position of digits when completing tasks. Some activities may have a practical focus and if it is possible to take a supporting photograph this would be useful.
Phonics - Phonics plays a considerable part of your child's learning in Year 1. During the coming weeks we will aim to provide a number of activities that support their understanding of blending sounds for reading and segmenting sounds for spelling. We often use the Phonics Play website to supplement their learning with a variety of fun games and tasks. During this current period the Phonics Play website is offering a free service to all parents. Please take advantage of this opportunity. The children will be familiar with the games and will need to look at activities focused on phase 4 and 5. To make use of this please visit the phonics play website and use the following information; User name - march20 password - home.
Information about Topic
These activities will focus on a range of subjects. Sometimes they may be spread over a number of days.
On behalf of all the Year 1 team we would like to wish you all the very best as we work together through this unsettling period. We hope that these activities are self explanatory but please do not hesitate to contact us if you encounter any major problems. We fully appreciate that at times learning may be difficult and understand that your children will find the situation confusing. We are sure however that as always you will continue to support your children in every way you can and that together we will make the very best of the position we find ourselves in. Take care from us all.
