Year four FAQ
Homework in year four:
As in year three, children in year four are set a weekly spelling homework sheet to complete as well as a times table to practise. Children are also expected to read at least three times a week at home. Children are also set a fortnightly learning log. This a more creative task based on current classroom topics.
Do I still need to listen to my child read if they are a free reader?
Although it is still useful to hear your child read, independent free readers can be given the opportunity to read alone provided there is a conversation between yourself and the child about what they have read. Questioning helps children to process what they have read and improves their comprehension skills.
How does swimming change in year four?
Swimming in year four is very similar to swimming in year three. Year four start swimming lessons in the first term and continue until the end of term three.
Parent helpers are still required and lessons are on the same day at the same time.
